The DoD’s FY 2025 President’s Budget request for modernization in Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) and Procurement titles totals $310.7 billion. Of this, Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) Systems account for $21.1 billion. Furthermore, the Tactical Communication Market size is estimated to be USD 12.5 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach USD 16.0 billion by 2027. To provide context, the U.S. Army for example, continues to work toward modernizing its communications network — from improving command posts to Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) to support the Warfighter across future large scale combat operations. The 2025 Summit will aim to foster agile, resilient, cost-efficient, and unified communication solutions that will enable commanders to make decisions across warfighting functions, giving them a decisive edge over the adversary.

There are many key factors to how the USG and DoD have approached the need for innovation in the tactical communications space, from advancements in wireless comms technologies such as 5G, to the increased need for cybersecurity for these systems, to the increased emphasis on network-centric warfare and modernization of communication infrastructure. Exercises such as Project Convergence and NetModx brought about key collaborations among the US Army and USMC seeing how they could enable their respective tactical units to operate faster and more dispersed by providing lighter, more mobile and survivable network and C2 equipment. This Summit will seek to enhance reliable access to high-capacity data, voice, and video anytime and anywhere to support commanders’ situational awareness and C2(Command and Control) capabilities. It will offer attendees the chance to engage with senior leaders from across the Services on how they are working to deliver network capability and enhanced C4ISR to the tactical edge, whether it be through secure NC3 for USAF, advanced SATCOM capabilities for Space Force, or enhancing CCA drone connectivity at Navy. This event will also offer insight into how PMs, acquisition authorities, and Commander are taking a data centric approach by leveraging emerging technologies such as AI, cloud, and modular, open systems approaches, to aide in addressing the challenges of an increasingly complex and contested battlespace.

This year’s Military Tactical Communications Summit will also feature various panel discussions that will provide key perspectives on topics such as the Army’s Unified Network initiative (AUNP 2.0), Tactical 5G for enhanced connectivity, satellite communications for more resilient on-orbit operations, and the need for C3 innovation across the DoD. These conversations will provide attendees with additional opportunities to learn and network with leaders on how tactical communications remain paramount to securing the current/future battlespace, serving as the bedrock for effective all-domain operations.
